The new, raw autumn wind is roaring around the corners of the house, but I am sitting on a soft bed under a warm blanket and the room is full of quiet, yellow light and the rug my grandmother made and books and slanting ceilings and endless colorful art projects tacked up on the wall. My ears ring with silence in the spaces between the wind.
